South of Nowhere Will Not Be Renewed For The Fifth Season!
Thursday, November 20th, 2008Hey guys! I know what you are thinking “Why does it always have to be one of my favorite shows?” That was exactly what came to my mind when I first came across the news. I do not feel that South of Nowhere should have been terminated so soon. The show was really doing well and was actually increasing its audience base in each season. It was one of those rare shows that had touched the lives of an entire generation. It was a hot favorite not only amongst the teens but across all age groups. The lead pair of Spencer and Ashley or Spashley as they were referred to, made a special place in everybody’s heart despite the fact that most of the people did not approve of their relationship. I have followed the show from its very first episode and I really feel heartbroken to know that there will be no new episodes to look forward to in the next year.
The series that revolved around the homosexual relationship between Ashley and Spencer, was a bold step taken by the creators. The series also focused on the issues of racism through the character of Clay. The two major social issues were touched with sensitivity and honesty, highlighting the difficulties that the protagonists faced. The trauma of social and family hatred, the pressure of colleagues as well as the identity crises faced by the main characters was beautifully put up before the audience. The results of the honest efforts were there for everyone to see. The fact that the audience instead of hating the characters began to sympathize with them was a proof of the success of the show. At the end of each episode the audiences were left worried about what would happen in the next episode. However, with the series being terminated, we can only hope that the network realizes its mistake and brings back the series as soon as possible.
