South of No Where - A flash back
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008South of Nowhere is a show that deals with general family and adolescent issues in an honest and convincing manner. The series tries to bring to light issues like trying to identify yourself, sexual identity, racial identity, bonding with family, realizing your faith, and dealing with parental expectations and peer pressure etc. The series created by Thomas W. Lynch was aimed at a teenage audience. It premiered on The N network on 4th November 2005.
The story of the series revolves around the Carlin family, which has just moved from a small city of Ohio to live in Los Angeles. The family is unprepared for the fast paced life, the ethnically diverse environment and “who cares” attitude of the people. Paula Carlin has a new in LA which is putting both her family as well as her marriage under strain. Her husband, Arthur Carlin who is the hero of Ohio due to his social work, is finding it difficult to adjust to big city life and keeping the family together. The family’s three teenage children also find themselves struggling to fit in this new social environment. Spencer Carlin, who used to think that she was a misfit in small town America, is surprised to find herself questioning everything. Glen Carlin who is very popular with girls, is a handsome boy of seventeen and plays a superb game of basketball. Clay Carlin is seventeen, smart, sarcastic and adopted. He is a boy of black ethnicity and finds that it is a bid hindrance in making his own identity in the city of LA. As the series we get to see the problems faced by the family members in their everyday lives and how they come over these problems. Two seasons of the series have already been aired while the third is currently being telecast on The N Network. The series apart from winning critical acclaim and being hugely appreciated by the audiences has also been nominated for GLAAD Media Awards and Teen Choice Awards.
