Hey the fans of South of Nowhere, how are you doing nowadays?

Well, we all know that South of Nowhere is off air nowadays. It ran for three seasons only and had a total of 40 episodes. Talking about the seasons, three taglines come to my mind… yeah, you’ve got the right nerve..

Okay, don’t let me get off center. This post is meant to be for Spencer Carlin, my favorite character from South of Nowhere, only. The character was portrayed by Gabrielle Christian. On the show, we saw her in tempestuous romantic relationship with Ashley Davies. She was seen on all seasons of the series and the lady won my heart with her brilliant acting skills and awesome performance. Her nickname was Spence. The episode which she was first seen on was entitled ‘Secret Truths’ and her last appearance was on ‘On the Precipice’. During the initial episodes of the show, we saw her as a student at UCLA and she later became film director. The cuteness and sweetness on her face was more than enough to attract people and it’s the reason why she’s among the most liked characters of South of Nowhere. She deserved to be missed and that’s why I am missing her a lot.

I do miss the show as well along with Spencer and really wish that it returns in form of movie. I know it seems pretty impossible but what’s bad if I wish so. Sexuality is a personal issue that is bound by personal choice and cannot be forced upon by somebody. If someone chooses to be a gay, I think it is his or her choice. What can be the drawback with someone engaging himself with same sex individual? Personally, I do not think that there is any drawback and it hurts any other party. The world is full of diversities and possibilities and nobody holds the right to interfere with these variations. So please chill out and have a broadminded view of these issues.

South of Nowhere is a commendable show that spurs us to take note of issues, which are widely prevalent, but we hide them behind a cloak and then say that they do not exist. Watching South of Nowhere was both learning as well as an entertaining experience.

“South of Nowhere” is prominently present in the new age teenager’s life. Teenagers are no longer weak, diffident beings. They want to experiment with their life. They use drugs to experience a high. “South of Nowhere” television series’ journey into a teenager’s life lasted three seasons. In this brief stint the show touched almost all debatable issues that are part of school and family life of a modern day teenager. It seemed like a beautiful saga of teenagers striving to establish their identity among grown ups. I am a teenager as well and there was every reason for me to feel connected to the show. It helped me explore myself indirectly. After watching this television series I have matured in my outlook towards life.

Nobody can point a finger at the popularity of “South of Nowhere” as it always enjoyed top ratings among prominent TV shows. In spite of being based on a bold theme this TV show captured the attention of people belonging to diverse age groups. Sometimes scanty is plenty, as even after the cancellation of “South of Nowhere” after its third season only, I don’t feel deprived of the show as it was a complete series in all respects. But it doesn’t imply I don’t get nostalgic about watching this TV show all over gain.

It had been only five weeks since the South of Nowhere star, Aasha Davis, welcomed her first child into her life, when she was faced with a family issue she had never expected would rise. On 8^th February, Aasha reported that her sister had gone missing and there was no information about her whereabouts.

Aasha’s sister, Leslie Herring is 45 years old and is nearly 5′ 8″. She was last seen by her co-workers in Glendale, CA, at the end of the workday on Friday, 6^th February. Later, she made a call on Saturday morning, which was the last time she was heard of. According to her family, Leslie is a very organized and reliable person and it is very unusual for her, to not be in touch for such a long time.

Reportedly, the investigations have led the police to believe that Leslie went missing, after she had an argument with her husband, Lyle Herring. Reportedly, the investigating officer, Detective Chris Gable, was also quite unhappy about the fact that Lyle did not fully cooperate with the authorities to find out more about his missing wife, although he denied considering Lyle as a suspect.

Meanwhile, Aasha, who portrayed the role of Chelsea Lewis, on the hit series, South of Nowhere, has joined forces with the police to try and find out her missing sister. She has been reported as saying that she feels that Leslie might have met with some tragedy, as otherwise she would definitely have contacted her family to let them know about her whereabouts.

However, Aasha has not lost all hope and she wants her sister to return home safely. She has also launched an appeal to the public to help the family in finding out evidence about Leslie’s whereabouts. At the end of the eight weeks since Leslie was last seen, the family also went on to hold a Candlelight Vigil to pray for the safe return of their beloved Leslie.

Hey friends! Maeve Quinlan, who played the conservative Catholic mother Paula Carlin on the hit show, South of Nowhere, might have shown hatred towards lesbianism in the show. But you will be surprised to know that in her real life, this statuesque blonde, loves lesbians. Recently, I came across an interview of the actress and thought of sharing some of the good things with you all. Maeve shares her apartment with two lesbian roommates and has many lesbian and gay friends.

But in spite of this, she has reportedly relished every minute of playing the role of one of the biggest homophobes on cable TV! In South of Nowhere, Maeve, is seen as the mother of Spencer, played by Gabrielle Christian, and tried to do everything in her power and even beyond that to prevent the star-crossed love affair between Spencer and her best friend and resident wild child, Ashley played by Mandy Musgrave. As such her character was generally hated by the viewers, who thought of her as the villain trying to separate two lovers. However, Maeve has reportedly said that she liked it when the viewers hated her character. Her explanation for this is that the audience actually hated what Paula represented and that was ignorance, intolerance, and homophobia.

Maeve had very interesting storyline of her own in South of Nowhere. In fact the beauty of the show lay in the fact that, every character on the show had his/her interesting story.  The focus of the show never rested entirely on one or two characters. Although Spencer and Ashley were the pivotal characters, but the other characters surrounding them were given equal importance. All of them had their own share of happiness, woes, love and heartbreaks.

In addition, South of Nowhere highlighted many issues like homosexuality, racism, marital issues etc. in a very honest and sensitive manner. Perhaps that was the reason why it became so popular across all age groups. I am really disappointed that the show could not be revived for another season at least. But anyways, sometimes it is better to end a show at a high point than let it be dragged on which will only degenerate its quality. At least in this manner we remember South of Nowhere as one of the classics of American television.

After going through many of the comments, it would not be wrong to say that this is one of the most liked shows on television. It seems that most of the viewers agree with the fact that this is a very well written and skillfully directed series. The sensitivity with which the series has raised various issues related to teenagers such as sexual orientation, racism, identity crisis, cyber bullying, virginity and dating etc has actually set the show apart from others of its genre. The characters and scenarios are both unbelievingly real and affect the life of many teenagers across the nation. They connect with the characters as they feel that they are going through the same situations in life. This is also one of the major reasons for the shows immense success.

The news about the cancellation of the show has resulted in many protest mails and blogs cropping up on the net. This alone is proof enough about the way the show is being receive by the public. There are people who feel that the show is too lenient about its content on sexual preferences and the language and behavior of the characters is too sexually charged. But I personally feel that this has merely been done to make the characters more realistic. The series acts as a teaching ground where parents can learn about what their teenage children want from them and in turn what they should expect from their children. Overall I feel that the series has been able to blend the needs of mature teens of modern age with the traditional dating and high school behavior of their adults. In short I would say that it is an awesome show and I really love it.
